Terres d’origine contrôlée : where does excavated soil come from ?

Every year in the Paris region, some 20 to 25 million tons of soil are excavated from construction sites. Excavated inert soil is a high-quality surplus material that ECT reuses to create development projects that benefit the region. Where does this soil come from? How does ECT guarantee its origin?

Here’s a look at three iconic sites in Paris and the role played by ECT’s environmental technicians.

Three emblematic Paris worksites: construction begins with excavation

La Tour de Triangle – Paris 15 | The 15th arrondissement of Paris is continuing its large-scale development with the impressive Tour Triangle construction site. In 2023, ECT has been assisting its customer SMTP, Société Moderne des Terrassements Parisiens, in the management and reclamation of excavated soil from this major construction site.

The Jardin d’Acclimatation – Paris 16 | On the edge of the Bois de Boulogne, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, the Jardin d’Acclimatation is being revamped. In the second quarter of 2023, ECT supported its client Pelayo, an earthworks and demolition company, in managing and recycling the excavated soil from this flagship project, just a few meters from the Louis-Vuitton Foundation.

AP-HP Assistance Publique – Paris 10 | The Nouveau Lariboisière AP-HP construction site, built by CBC, is located in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. ECT’s environmental technicians at work on the excavation sites of our construction customers

ECT’s environmental technicians supervise the removal of soil excavated by our earthworks customers from construction sites. What does their job involve? They ensure that the soil and materials are properly transported to the appropriate recycling sites, by issuing electronic transport vouchers. ECT’s environmental engineering services are designed to ensure the traceability and recovery of soil on the move.
