Le Moniteur – March 2020 – Special Circular Economy Initiatives
Terres excavées, a fresh look at waste, an article by Laurent Miguet.
In Seine-et-Marne, the reuse of 13 million m3 of materials has transformed a landfill site into a wooded park. Development work is in full swing at the former gravel pit in Villeneuve-sous-Dammartin (Seine-et-Marne), which became an inert waste storage facility in 2014. From 2024, the site will be home to “Les Yeux du ciel”, a gigantic work by architect Antoine Grumbach made from excavated earth. These two eyes, 400 m long and 170 m wide, will then be delivered to passengers landing at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport.
The law on the circular economy thus consolidates the balance advocated by ECT: encouraging local authorities to seize project opportunities, without losing the traceability guaranteed by waste status.
Located close to Mesnil-Amelot station, the terminus of the future line 17 of the Grand Paris Express, our project will have everything it takes to become a destination in its own right. It ticks all the boxes in our business of developing undeveloped land," enthuses Laurent Mogno, President of ECT.
"Soil is not part of the circular economy for its market value. We advocate reuse for use, societal and symbolic purposes," explains Antoine Grumbach.
