Project presentation
The Chaussée Brunehaut Park is being developed in partnership with the town of Houdain. On a former landfill site, the town wishes to offer its residents a new natural space. A large area is available for events, with grass seating. A path will link up with the existing promenades to join the Lawe, which flows along the edge of the site. The circular economy of land from local building sites enables us to self-finance the creation of the park, the planting of trees and the equipment to open it to the public.

Project life
End, of land contributions to Houdain, a new stage reached
September 2024 – After three months of work, the earthworks on the Houdain site have been completed.
Part of the site has already been redeveloped for future planting.
The planted terraces are in place and the slopes have been seeded.
The next stage will involve local children, who will take an active part in the planting.
This educational project will strengthen the bond between residents and this new green space.
Isabelle Ruckebusch, Mayor of Houdain, presents the project
June 2024 – Isabelle Ruckebusch, mayor of Houdain (62), recently presented to the local press the transformation of a derelict communal plot of land into an urban park designed to revitalize the environment and provide a new place for residents to relax.
The project, known as Parc de la Chaussée Brunehaut, represents a strong commitment to sustainable development and the enhancement of green spaces. During the visit, Isabelle Ruckebusch highlighted the central role played by ECT Hauts-de-France in this exemplary refurbishment.
A new stage in the project: inert soil input
May 2024 – Rehabilitation of the site began in May with the addition of inert soil from local construction sites. This first phase marks the beginning of the project. During April, the site was prepared. The VRD teams secured the site by installing fencing and preparing the ditches to ensure optimum hydraulic management. The soil received is rigorously controlled and traced, enabling the site’s new shape to be created. The project is monitored live via timelapse, providing continuous visibility of the work in progress.
A project driven by the principles of the circular economy excavated soil from local construction sites
The redevelopment of the site has been co-designed with the town of Houdain.
The project involves opening up a 1.7-hectare natural area to the public, organized around a large area for entertainment and a footpath. A belvedere offers a view over the Lawe valley.
Part of the site will be planted (regional forest) to help preserve biodiversity and combat climate change. Japanese knotweed sites will also be treated.
The project is self-financed thanks to the reuse of inert soil from local construction sites. ECT’s expertise ensures the analysis, characterization, traceability and control of materials received on site.
