Systematic soil map

In partnership with PatriNat and MNHN, publication of a systematic map of built-up soils

A wealth of scientific literature on built-up soils This systematic map is now available in open-data format on Collaboration for Environmental Evidence. Its purpose is to survey the abundant scientific literature on the biodiversity potential of soils constructed from mineral waste. This card is the result of ECT’s sponsorship of the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle and PatriNat. The aim is to provide a better understanding of the numerous studies carried out on the subject. By listing and facilitating access to the scientific literature on a given subject, the systematic map is a dynamic tool that opens the way to new

Protecting a site, improving the living environment

Inert soil from local construction sites can be reused to create protective embankments. This land reclamation covers the cost of landscaping. The site thus finds a new use and is home to new natural environments (meadows, copses, woods). The phonic mound becomes a landscaped area that enhances the attractiveness of the area THE CHALLENGE: the increase in rail infrastructures and the densification of traffic create a context of growing noise. In order to maintain the quality of life in their area, some communities need to reduce noise pollution. The challenge is to provide a rapid development solution to restore and

Paris, December 8, 2022 – The Chair in Urban Land Reclamation chair, run by the École des Ingénieurs de la Ville de Paris and ECT, publishes Éditions Eyrolles the book “Terres Urbaines, valeurs positives de la ville de demain”, edited by Youssef Diab. Excavated soil raises new development challenges The ecological transition is leading us to reconsider our approaches and practices to urban development, which are marked by excessive consumption of resources – materials, energy, water, land, etc. – and by a lack of transparency. – and a lack of recycling. The question of excavated soil and its recovery is

The Académie des Technologies publishes Laurent Mogno’s speech

Economic players face the challenge of integrating biodiversity issues into corporate strategy. After a first seminar in January 2022 dedicated to the presentation of scientific knowledge on the erosion of biodiversity, The Académie des Technologies continued its work with a second seminar, held on June 8, 2022, on the issue ofbiodiversity issues by economic players. How are these issues perceived, analyzed and implemented in corporate strategy? Invited by Bernard Chevassus-au-Louis, President of Humanité & Biodiversité, Laurent Mogno, President of ECT, presented ECT’s model for non-built development using excavated soil from urban construction sites. He described how the company takes action

Publication of “Terres, sols profonds du Grand Paris”, a book by photographer Anne-Marie Filaire

In 2019, photographer Anne-Marie Filaire visited 6 sites operated by ECT. Today, ECT is very proud of the publication of this book, the fruit of its reporting. Every year, 22 million tonnes of earth are excavated to build the metropolis and extend the boundaries of Paris. Our collective imagination is imbued with the imposing image of the slag heaps of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, so we can visualize what the concept of “excavated earth” represents, and understand the visual impact and environmental issues we may be confronted with. Here, however, we’re not talking about black earth extracted from coal mines, but

HUMANITÉ & BIODIVERSITÉ AND ECT SIGN A CHARTER IN FAVOR OF BIODIVERSITY

Commitments to biodiversity through an operational methodology In 2019, ECT and the Humanité & Biodiversité association signed a charter of commitment to biodiversity. The year 2020 marks a new stage in this partnership. The charter is enriched by methodological considerations and a highly operational approach to the design and development of ECT sites. Methodological principles for operational implementation In collaboration with Humanité et Biodiversité, ECT defined its commitments in favor of biodiversity, and then set about developing a methodology to help put these commitments into practice in the design of its projects. The main principles and ambitions of ECT’s developments

ECT AND A. GRUMBACH: LAND, LAND ART, LIFE!

Unprecedented development projects from the collaboration between ECT and A.Grumbach, artist, architect, urban planner How did the collaboration between ECT and AG Territoires come about? From the meeting between Laurent Mogno, President of ECT, and Antoine Grumbach, and fundamentally, from the sharing of a strong conviction:“The earth is not a simple spoil but a formidable resource”. This conviction leads  to a long-term project:  the “Belvederes of Greater Paris”. These Belvederes represent a unique artistic, tourist and leisure project on a grand landscape scale. The first of these will be “Yeux du Ciel“, a work of metropolitan Land Art  on the ECT site
