In Iverny (77), the mayor is enthusiastic about the creation of a new community park

3 questions to Olivier Stehlin, Mayor of Iverny

The project led by Iverny town council and ECT offers a new 8700 m² communal space, built around a tree-lined promenade with over 800 trees and a fitness trail with 8 different apparatus. A look back at the project, which will be completed this summer 2021, in a short space of time, with access to the site regulated and mandatory to generate as little nuisance as possible in the village.

How did this healthcare pathway come about?

At the western end of the village, we had an old soccer pitch. There had been talk of refurbishing it. But that didn’t happen. The land had been abandoned, with the attendant risks of squatting.
For a long time, I’d been thinking of building a fitness trail there. But how to finance it? That’s where the encounter with ECT was decisive. ECT’s reuse of excavated soil from nearby building sites has enabled us to build and finance the entire fitness trail. There was no cost to the commune.

Was there any reluctance, as the reuse of inert soil is often a little-known practice?

Indeed, we had to be convinced of ECT’s ability to characterize the soil and use only inert, unpolluted soil for the development. We were impressed by the reliability of the teams and the conditions under which the work was monitored. The project was carried out with confidence. The soil injections lasted just over two months. Then came the installation of the equipment and, in late autumn, planting time.

And what do you think of the health trail?

The village really needed an open, friendly and sporty space. The hilltop overlooks the surrounding countryside. In the end, it’s even better! The residents of Iverny have adopted it and are already coming to play sport or go for a walk.

The support and attentiveness of the ECT teams during the design and implementation phases were remarkable. We were able to choose each piece of equipment. In the end, the paths were laid in stabilized concrete. We were also able to select all the tree species. The sports course is a great success. It’s great to be able to complete a project in such a short space of time.
